BarB Before Summer’s Over

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

We’re having a BarB and a few friends over this weekend before the season officially is over. It’s always chicken and hotdogs for me. Willing to try something different like bratwursts. Never had them before. I wish I knew hot make good satay though.

Have you a barbecue recipe or dish to share? Please tell me!

Menu Planning Is Smart

Curious About Kosher Foods?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Well, I was! So, when my friend Kelly interviewed yet another friend of mine, Sarah Zeldman and her partner Rivka Slatkin about What is Kosher over at Family Food Network, I just had to listen. Coming from Malaysia, I must admit the Jewish religion and this thing about Kosher food is not entirely a new concept to me. Muslims have Halal food which is along the same lines. But this is very interesting to me since I like to learn and we also have a blogger here who has a Jewish family.

Sopapilla Cheesecake

A southern dessert!

 2 cans of crescent rolls

1 stick butter

1  cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

2 package (8 oz each) creame cheese, soften

Preheat oven to 350F. Press 1 can of crescent rolls into bottom of 9×13 inch pan. Mix cream cheese, 3/4 cup sugar and vanilla until creamy. Spread over rolls in pan. Cover with other can of rolls. Melt butter and pour over top. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Bake for 40 minutes. When done, let it sit and cool down so that the filling has time to set. Cut in squares and served warm or room temperature. Goes well with coffee!

Do You Watch Top Chef?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

I followed Season 1 through the end and skipped Season 2 altogether and watching Season 3 on/off. My favorites from Season 1 is actually that Asian girl Lee An (spelling?). Anyhow, it’s very, very interesting how fast they are and still dressed up nicely.

Joining the club

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Hi everyone.  I’ve decided to take the plunge and join the club – yeah, the makan club!  I am not a very experienced cook.  I like baking more than cooking to tell the truth and over the years, I’ve learned to make more western than asian food.   I thought I’ll share some of my recipes with everyone here.  Starting with my hubby-endorsed (Texan) beef and bean chili and if I can find the recipe, a modified version of Orange Brownies that I know waterlily has been asking for.

 So, let’s get cooking! :-)
