Instant Ice Cream Results

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Finally tried the Instant Ice Cream recipe I got from a home shopping TV show. The verdict? It’s really yummy! But takes practice to get right. Here’s what happened in my experiments.

The first time was almost a disaster but the disaster actually turned out to be quite good. I blended some frozen strawberries and whipping cream together. The texture was great – don’t expect ice cream on a cone. It’s more like slushie. But it was good. Even without sugar it was pretty good and hey great for kids ya know. My kids gobbled it up.

BarB Before Summer’s Over

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

We’re having a BarB and a few friends over this weekend before the season officially is over. It’s always chicken and hotdogs for me. Willing to try something different like bratwursts. Never had them before. I wish I knew hot make good satay though.

Have you a barbecue recipe or dish to share? Please tell me!

Menu Planning Is Smart

Good news for amateur bakers!

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

OK, they probably aren’t many around here but yours truly is one.

On Monday, I decided to bake my own bread.  I followed a simple recipe that came with my new changgih-to-me KA mixer.  All went well until it says to split the dough into two baking pans of the same size.  I have them but one was glass and the other, flexible silicone.  I went ahead.  Horrors came out of the oven …..

Bread Gone Wrong!

The left one is from the glass pan and was perfect, taste and all.  The other not only look obscene but smelled yeasty and was undercooked.  As for the texture, let’s just say I dare not tap the wall with it as the paint might come off!

What Are You Having Today?

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I am ever so lucky to have my mom here. Walked into the kitchen today and found this! Yes! One of my favorites.
curry puff

For the benefit others, curry puffs are like Samosa’s except the pastry is different. It is also commonly filled with curried potatoes with minced meat, or my mom’s favorite – shrimp.

My mom is also an adventurer when it comes to cooking. She fried some flour tortillas up once (see picture below) and wow. They taste great! Better with salsa! Yum.
