The Little Things

October 28th, 2008 by Lynette

Sometimes it’s the little things in presentation that make a meal spectacular, such as a great table setting, artistically swirled sauce, or even a couple vegetable “flowers.”

While it may seem silly, the appearance of a little radish rose on my salad plate has the power to tickle me from head to toe. Maybe it’s my fondness for the concept of edible art. Moreover, can you deny that a pretty dessert or any other dish just seems to taste better? Even the slightest special touches in culinary preparation and presentation transform the mere act of eating into a full-blown aesthetic experience. Sprucing up a buffet for a party or a sit-down meal for guests (or an especially spoiled loved one) is easier than you might think and makes all the difference. People will be truly dazzled by these extra little touches. Here are some ideas to get you started in the art of food presentation. Good luck!

Cast Iron Cookware

October 27th, 2008 by Charlene

Many people think of cast iron cookware as something that was mainly used years ago and not as much today. This is not true at all. Many individuals enjoy using this cookware on a daily basis for cooking foods and even baking them. Cookware that is made of cast iron heats more thoroughly than other cookware and cooks foods very evenly and thoroughly. If the cookware has been seasoned correctly, it will actually be resistant to foods sticking to it.

Cook Better Meals With Your Home Cooking

October 26th, 2008 by Con Haralambidis

We love home cooking. Those T.V. dinners just do not seem to hold a candle to a home-made meal. The problem usually is that we do not have the time to devote to making an entire meal from scratch. Frozen or boxed dinners are quick and easy. It is not enough though. We yearn for the home cooking that our parents and grandparents prepared for us.

There is nothing like healthy cooking. So why do we turn to boxed meals or fast food fare? There are two highly possible reasons. The first is lack of time. Work takes up a vast majority of our time.

Fresh Hot Bread With Panasonic Bread Maker

September 25th, 2008 by Con Haralambidis

I’ve always thought breads were one of the most universal foods. Anywhere you go in the world there’s bound to be some kind of bread in the local food. In our household fresh bread is a regular thing. There’s something about the smell of fresh bread in the air that’s good for your soul and very yummy for the tummy. But breadmaking can be a bore and have often kicked around the idea of getting a bread maker, just never knew which would work. Thankfully, Con submitted this review to me which makes me think the Panasonic is the one I’ll be getting soon. – Lynette

Surprise Hit Snack – Rice Cakes

September 19th, 2008 by Lynette

Since daddy is a big snack eater in this house, I often have trouble convincing my kids to choose healthier alternatives to daddy’s not so healthy potato chips. This year I kinda got tired and insisted on packing better snacks for school lunch whether they like it or not. I figure, they either eat it or go hungry – I know, I know, but hey, didn’t they say it takes 7 – 8 exposures to a food before they will eat it? Furthermore, if I’m always giving them choices which include less healthy alternatives we’re not going to move ahead.
