Surprise Hit Snack – Rice Cakes
September 19th, 2008 by Lynette
Since daddy is a big snack eater in this house, I often have trouble convincing my kids to choose healthier alternatives to daddy’s not so healthy potato chips. This year I kinda got tired and insisted on packing better snacks for school lunch whether they like it or not. I figure, they either eat it or go hungry – I know, I know, but hey, didn’t they say it takes 7 – 8 exposures to a food before they will eat it? Furthermore, if I’m always giving them choices which include less healthy alternatives we’re not going to move ahead.
I started with Sun Chips. That was not such a surprise since I myself love Sun Chips and vegetable chips and they have had them before. But this week, I decided to try Quaker’s Rice Mini Delight Rice Snacks. We’ve had the savory Cheddar rice snacks before and they loved it. But the mini delights. My eldest who is picky, picky, picky absolutely loved it.
I am super happy now because if it passes her taste buds it’ll pass the rest of the kiddos’ taste buds since they are not so picky. The nice part is, they are packed in small little packs. I find that makes it easier to ration their intake of snacks and easier to explain what a serving is. At least until they get the hang of it.
My next step is probably to find a recipe to make my own. They are great, but can get expensive.
